PEX Polidan® pipes for heating is a fast growing market, and this material is replacing the traditional PB, PPr and PVC in the new installations.
Heating can be performed with a inner-wall or with an underfloor heating system.
Using such systems, the biggest part of heat transfer is done through radiation and only a small part by convection. The cold air circulation and the air leaks are minimum, which preserves the environment comfortable and healthy.
On the contrary, when using a traditional radiator heating, the air takes the heat from the radiator, while it gets in contact with it, because of the air circulation. The heated air looses humidity and gets dry, while the thermal efficiency is much lower. This air is not healthy, and additional humidification and ventilation are necessary.
For these reasons, wall and floor heating systems with PEX pipes are the most healthy, comfortable and cheap way of heating.
Besides, in the installation of pure plastic pipe the permeability to oxygen is very important. The oxygen present in the water or coming from air may, in some particular cases, create corrosion of metallic part composing the heating system. The coextrusion of PEX with barrier film resistant to oxygen like EVOH is the solution.
PEX Polidan® can be used to produce multilayer pipes with aluminium as well as pipes with oxygen barrier. Our customers produce pipes with EVOH in the middle (5 layers pipe) or outside (3 layers pipe), ensuring protection against oxygen permeability. This reduces the damages deriving from the oxidation of the iron parts of the boilers due to the action of the oxygen present in the water.
Thanks to this solution, multilayer pipes produced with PEX Polidan® can ensure a longer lifetime not only to the pipes, in respect to metal or standard polyolefins, but also to the heating device.
